What to expect in Therapy

What to expect in sessions

"Psychology is the study of human mind and behaviour: how we think, how we act, react and interact individually, in relationships and in groups. Psychology is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivations underlying such behaviour." (British Psychological Society)

Psychological Therapy offers a way to explore and begin to understand the thoughts, feelings and behaviours we experience, and the impact of these combined factors on our daily life.

We aim to provide a safe, confidential and professional relationship which will allow us to explore these things in a way that is seldom possible in everyday relationships.

This is a process that can sometimes be upsetting. In the long-term, however, by exploring together the things that distress us, we can begin to see them in new ways which can help us move towards positive change.

You might have read a lot about different 'approaches' or models within psychology and how they are useful for different problems. As Counselling Psychologists, our approach to therapy is influenced by a variety of models, and we are both trained in Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive-Behavioural approaches. We would always aim to match our way of working with your particular needs within therapy.

Sessions

If you decide you might be interested in psychological therapy please contact us. We will then arrange an initial meeting with one of us at a time that is mutually convenient. This meeting will last approximately an hour and will offer us the chance to find out more about your reasons for coming to therapy and to come to a mutual decision about whether further meetings would be useful. Any subsequent meetings would also last approximately an hour at a time.

We charge £110 per hour session if you are self-funding. We do offer reduced rates for therapists in training. We accept payment in a variety of ways including cash, cheque and bank transfers.

Should we agree to work together on an ongoing basis, sessions would be arranged in advance and these appointments will be kept strictly for you. Therefore, you would be responsible for paying for them if you cancel or miss a pre-arranged session. We have a 36- working hour cancellation policy and this will be discussed further with you at our first meeting.

In addition to seeing people who can self-fund, we are also registered with a range of private medical insurance companies. We are approved practitioners with:

  • BUPA
  • Aviva
  • Axa PPP
  • Pru Health
  • WPA
  • Cigna
  • Simply Health
  • Vitality Health

Your Insurance Company will be able to advise you about the conditions set out within your policy and you should ensure you clarify these before embarking on psychological therapy. Our fees for medical insurance cases vary in line with their processes and requirements from us.

Contact us in confidence.
